Here are a few current political topics of today that maybe of interest for Urban Elephants to discuss.

A Quinnipiac University poll shows that 81 percent of Democrats are clueless. But we all knew this already.

The recent investigations from the DA offices of Staten Island and Manhattan on the Independence Party Party have upset party leaders and it appears chairman Frank MacKay will be challenged for his seat.

There's also the State vs City faction of the Independence Party and it is causing much mayhem with its ranks.

The questionable behavior from the party has Dan Donovan, Republican candidate for Attorney General, declining consideration for the line.

The battle for the Independence Party on the state and the city level, created a bit of turmoil for local candidates. On the Republican side in Queens, Sen. Frank Padavan was challenged, but was able to secure his name for the line. Senate-candidate Anthony Como was not.

To make matters worse for Como, the CFB told the six month former councilman, "Hey, we need $13k from you."

Much of the Independence Party petitions dealt with elections for State Committee and if you had the wrong name on your petition, you were challenged by the other side. This pretty much means everyone was challenged. GOP Senate-candidate Patrick Tina spent many man-hours with volunteers trying to secure more than the minimum number of signatures for the line but was knocked off because of the committee leadership fight.

On the congressional side, however, Republican-candidate Dino Laverghetta was able to secure the Independence line away from incumbent Rep. Carolyn Maloney. One might want to argue that a candidate shouldn't be touting a party line with so much controversy. However, Dino can always rely on the cluelessness of Democrats.

One might argue that Republicans tend to lose elections because they don't have that Sixth Sense like Democrats have

Queens Republican (and former Conservative) Serph Maltese is fed up with the split decision for new Board of Elections executive. He concludes that if you can't make up your mind on who should run the show, then you might as well do the right thing and come to an agreement on electing Serph Maltese to the post.  If A and B can't be decided upon, choose C. Interesting...

Blogger Raquel Okyay has a new look for her blog. And after blogging on a local race down in Queens/Nassau, her discussion thread seems to be creating a huge debate.

Alan Alda look-a-like, Carl Paladino is not a fan of old Cox and he explains why he actually likes young Cox.

At the recent New York Young Republican event at Slate, Herb London of the Hudson Institute made an interesting statement: "The average salary for a New York State public sector employee is around $91,000 a year. The average salary of a private sector employee is around $51,000 a year. The $51,000 salary is paying taxes to support the public sector worker. This kind of taxing is not sustainable in the real world."

GOP Senate candidate for the 34 Senate District, Frank Vernuccio sent out a press release asking that we abolish the MTA.

Once again, the arrogant leaders of the MTA ignored public outcries over its mismanagement.  Once again, the MTA has called for fare increases, at a time when service is inadequate.  Once again, the State Senate failed to stand up to protect the public.

The public's patience is at an end.  The MTA, as an organization managing mass transit, has failed. The time has come to abolish this arrogant and inefficient organization.

Finally, Rep. Charles Rangel has been in the news lately. This morning, I heard that supporters are now playing the "race card" claiming Republicans are saying the congressman is an alien from another world and not human. I have not heard one story where Republicans are asking Mr. Rangel to go to Arizona, so this must be a bogus story.

Also, Rangel said something very funny in an interview recently regarding all the factu.... sorry, "allegations" concerning his current predicament.

It may not be pleasant, but it is going to give me a sense of relief,” Rangel said. “At least we will know where we are going. But it’s painful to have to say, ‘no comment’, when people are attacking the very reason that you exist.”

So, Mr. Rangel's very reason that he exists is to cheat the American system of government on taxes and taking advantage of rent regulation rules? It's nice he can be so clear in admitting it. :)

There's one more topic for discussion I left off in error. A study has found the secret to extending a man's life expectancy.
