Lazio camp doing everything to ruin his campaign

I don't really need links here, but if you want one, just go to Liz benjamin's Daily Politics. She's got plenty.

Message to Rick Lazio and his campaign. The fact that you cannot talk about fixing the State economy and are more concerned about what Steve Levy does shows that you are not serious about fixing the State. If you can't convince people that you are the right choice, then the game is over and you should just call it quits. If you believe you can, then run for the office of governor.

Stop sounding like a scorned ex-girlfriend who got dumped by the evil mustache man.

This is what disgusts me about some politicians. Rather than seeing competition as a challenge to IMPROVE yourself, and maybe do better than if you were unchallenged, you run, hide, cry, whine and can't get your act together.  I've seen this countless times.

I've defended Lazio in the past when his 2000 Senate campaign was being used against him this year. I argued that a person can change and improver over a decade, let him do his rounds and convince his base that he's better. lazio has been doing just that for months.

But now, he has a challenger and learning some party leaders are jumping off the Lazio bus. PROVE THESE FOLKS WRONG, PLEASE! Or, simply give up. You sound like a man who is ready to lose.

Lazio

The problem with Lazio is his ties to former Gov. Pataki, who had the opportunity to act like a Republican while in office, but instead acted like a politician, to the detriment of the New York taxpayer.

Lazio has to convince the People that he is separate from them.

Steve Levy is presenting himself as the right alternative to "business as usual".

To play fair here Raquel, Lazio also got the support from Rudy Giuliani, who was at odds with Gov Pataki from 1994 to 2001.

As I was telling you off-line, the GOP should get a Winner, not a weener.

A winner would tour the state,
explain that you understand how the state got into the fiscal crisis it currently is in and that you have a plan to fix it.
It could be basic and not specific as you want to avoid throwing out targeted corrections that the state executive can't do. But some things need to make sense and billed a consensus that it can be done.

A winner would get someone on staff to reach out to candidates for state office. For State Senate and State Assembly. Reach out to elected and aspirants. Work with these campaign staffs in districts that will be competitive. Stand side-by-side with the GOP State Senate candidate and any Assembly candidate district that has cross-over and rally the base.

Say, "These guys will fight with me to fix the problems of this state. No more backroom deals. No more out of control spending. We will lower your taxes, create an environment that will bring in new industry and create jobs making New York the Empire state once again!"

Is all this that hard?

A weener would be someone who believes that it is his time. It's my turn. Step aside. I'm the annointed one. And anyone who challenges me, how dare they. I will sling insults. I will fling irrelevant dribble about conversations he has had in the past.

I've been critical of Rick Lazio in the past, Dan. To your credit, you've loyally defended him on grounds that he's matured over the past decade. The best test of a candidate is how he performs in a real contest, under pressure.

If Lazio now is caving under light pressure from a Democrat-turned-Republican who has garnered some support within the GOP, he won't be a good candidate in the general election.

The people of New York want to know how Rick Lazio will address the financial crisis confronting the state. They're not interested in hearing whining about Steve Levy.

Lazio, like Pataki, is terrified of the unions and cannot bring himself to take them on. In the months he's been campaigning, Lazio has failed to suggest even one serious proposal for dealing with NY's structural deficits, lowering taxes, etc. He just seems incapable of it. Oddly that was basically his failure in the 2000 race also; his speeches were all "cotton candy" comments filled with platitudes (sp?) but no substance. So, I'm not so sure he has "matured" as a candidate. Seems like the same guy to me.
