As of July 21st, Alaska's Gov. Sarah Palin has stormed into second place in Intrade.com's ranking of potential VP's for John McCain. Right now, she is trading at $19.9 and rising, higher than every candidate except Mitt Romney (and his numbers are starting to drop).
Prediction markets now rival polling as one of the top ways to predict political events, and Intrade is the biggest and most prestigious prediction market online. This could be big news for the unofficial Draft Palin movement.
Meanwhile, Jonah Goldberg has an article in today's LA Times detailing the pros and cons of each potential VP pick. Gov. Palin is ranked as a "Medium risk" pick, and Goldberg says that she "could be a home run" (the only candidate he noted as having such potential).
Unlike most of the other candidates, she also does not have any major groups listed in the column marked "Alienates". The only listing is"Alaska's kleptocracy" (and they NEED to be alienated).
