“We should reverse the presumption of confirmation,” Schumer said, according to Politico. “The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.” During the same speech, Schumer lamented that he hadn’t managed to block Bush’s prior Supreme Court nominations.
…Although I don’t think the Senate GOP should fully “block” any nominee to our Highest Court, I do believe it’s acceptable to work hard, within the mechanisms of the Senate, to drag out this nomination and, potentially, run out the clock on it. Depending on who the President nominates, it may even be beneficial to allow hearings to go forward, as the Presidential election will surely grab hold of any controversy and take it to the public.
